WOD with Warriors

If you haven’t quite figured out how you want to pay homage this year to those warriors who are no longer with us, then this week’s posts are for you. And, even if you have a plan, you might read through them anyway, just to get some idea of what your fellow veterans are doing.

I’m going to start with “WOD with Warriors.” Originally started by Iron Tribe Fitness as Workout of the Day (WOD) for Warriors, it has since become the “functional fitness” arm of the Team Red, White, and Blue umbrella under its current name. A twice yearly event, WOD with Warriors brings together both veterans and civilians to pay their respects through a little sweat and camaraderie on Memorial Day and Veterans Day.

Engaging in a little word play, the event uses a “21 Gun Salute” format -21 repetitions of 5 exercises (one for each branch of the service) for 21 minutes. The exercises – 400 meter run, pushups, box jumps, burpees, and pull-ups – will be executed in gyms across the USA from Gaylord, Michigan, to Nampa, Idaho. Dates vary and events can be any time between 20-26 May this year, with most events scheduled for 24 May. Times are also flexible, with most scheduled sometime in the morning.

It’s too late to get the t-shirt this year (registration for that closes out two weeks before the event), but it cost $35. Without the t-shirt, registration is FREE and is generally open through the day of the event. You also have the option of donating $10 to Team Red, White, and Blue when you register.

Scheduled WOD with Warriors events, over 175 of them, can be found on the interactive map on Team Red, White, and Blue’s webpage. If you don’t see one in your area, you can sign up to host one on that page as well. If you don’t have time to plan one for this year but you just can’t stand to be left out, you can use the “Charity Miles” app to log some miles for Team RWB. The app is free (you have to sign up and provide name, date of birth, e-mail, zip code, and gender) and will donate 25₡ for every mile you run or walk and 10₡ for each mile you bike to Team Red, White, and Blue.
